8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Rise & Shine at Little Monsters Academy!
8:00 AM – 8:30 AM – Drop-Off / Arrival
Our doors unlock at 8:00 AM, and lock again at 8:30 AM. If you arrive late for drop-off please just ring the bell and one of our teachers will let you in.
8:00 AM – 8:15 AM – Free Play
As our students are arriving for a new day, we allow our little monsters some time to get reacquainted with their friends and get comfortable before settling in. The first 15 minutes of each class are reserved for free play.
8:15 AM – 8:30 AM – Structured Activities (Name Tracing & Spelling)
The first structured activity each day involves our older students practice spelling and tracing. Younger students are also invited to participate. This daily routine helps our students to learn how to spell their own name and properly hold writing utensils.
8:30 AM – 9:00 AM – Opening Circle Time
Our students gather on the carpet where we review the calendar, seasons, and geography. We then discuss our weekly theme, and finish with story time. On Wednesdays we also do show-and-share, an activity that allows children to bring a toy from home and share it with the class.
9:30 AM – 10:00 AM – Numbers and Counting
Our next structured activity involves counting, basic addition and subtraction, sorting, identifying 2D and 3D shapes, and recognizing single and double digit numbers.
10:00 AM – 10:30 AM – Snack Time
We instruct all students to wash and dry their hands before snack time. We serve healthy vegetarian snacks every class. Our menu consists of fruits, veggies, grains, and dairy. We are a nut free facility (including spreads like Nutella). Our menu does not include meat, but you are welcome to send your own snacks with meat if you wish.
10:30 AM – 10:45 AM – Outdoor Preparation
After snack time we instruct Students to use the washroom, assist younger students who are not yet potty trained, and begin getting ready to go outdoors.
10:45 AM – 11:30 AM – Outdoor Play
We take our students to a nearby park for a minimum of 40 minutes (but usually up to one hour) each class. We’re outdoors rain or shine, unless the weather presents a safety hazard for our students.
11:30 AM – 12:00 PM – Pick-Up / Closing Circle Time
Upon returning from the park we begin our closing circle time, which consists of music & movement, dancing, exercise, and occasionally Yoga. We do our best to burn off any excess energy before sending children home for the day.
9:30 AM – 10:00 AM – Science, Nature & Social Studies
We wash our hands before and after snacks, then it’s time to learn about the world! Our curriculum is expressed in many different themes throughout each month, most lasting an entire week, where we introduce our little monsters to everything we can about science, nature, human society and various cultures from around the world.
10:00 AM – 10:30 AM – Story Time / Reading & Writing
Who doesn’t love a good story? Stories help our little monsters begin to associate sounds with the letters on the page. Recognition of the alphabet leads to spelling and then writing. We dedicate at least one half-hour each class to improving our students’ reading and writing abilities.
10:30 AM – 11:30 AM – Outdoor Play @ Memorial South Park
There’s a giant playground, many open fields, a few forested areas, a duck pond, soccer field, race track, public washrooms and more, all surrounded by a friendly and welcoming neighborhood. Memorial South Park offers 30 acres and lots of opportunity for our little monsters to get acquainted with nature.
Our outdoor play time always occurs in a controlled environment. Our staff follow strict safety guidelines to ensure our little monsters leave our facility and return safely in an organized, calm and efficient manor.
11:30 AM – 11:45 AM – Closing Circle Time (Story Time & Discussion)
Once we’ve settled in after returning from outdoors, we either gather in the circle time area for a discussion or go to the reading area for story time. Both the story and the discussion will involve the current theme.
11:45 AM – 12:00 PM – Clean Up Time
We believe it’s important for our little monsters to learn the value of cleaning up their own mess. We find that most of them are happy to contribute once given this classroom responsibility. Then, it’s time to get ready to go home!
Around this time, parents will start arriving to take their children. Most days our little monsters will spend about 5 minutes putting away toys before they begin preparing for departure 5 to 10 minutes before noon.
12:00 PM – Pick-Up / Departure
Class may be finished at noon but the day is just beginning!
