Welcome to Little Monsters Academy!

Our Philosophy

Our program is inspired by Reggio-Emilia, Montessori, and a patchwork of other pedagogical concepts and ideas.

We’re play-based, but teacher led. We consider free play as important learning time that allows children to exchange ideas and fine-tune their motor skills as they interact with different activities available throughout our classroom.

We avoid screen time, and we also believe structured learning time is essential for a child to get used to a classroom setting. Our program offers roughly 2 hours each day of both structured and unstructured learning time.

We understand the importance of play

Our play-based approach to educating children on core science, technology, engineering, and math
subjects will have your little monster well prepared for kindergarten, familiarizing them with numbers,
timekeeping, geometry, the alphabet, the calendar, basic science and engineering concepts, geography,
music and a wonderful mix of celebrations and world cultures.

Self-Control & Behaviour Management

We believe teaching children how to properly conduct themselves in a classroom setting by sharing, expression emotions using words, following instructions, routines, and exhibiting self-control are far more important than academics early on, and vital to success in Kindergarten, grade school and even later in life.

We respect children’s emotions. We provide an interactive space where children can develop and grow
into healthy well-rounded individuals. We strongly believe in an inclusive environment that welcomes
children with many different backgrounds, cultures, and abilities.

Socialization & Making Friends

We believe friendships strengthen and promote empathy, and are vital to a child’s success and well-being. We regularly encourage children to play in pairs to form new friendships, and we encourage parents to consider play-dates outside of school if we feel it will strengthen a new friendship.

Stomping Around Memorial South Park

Our program offers one hour of outdoor play every class. We will be escorting the children to nearby Memorial South Park, our daily stomping grounds. Memorial South Park offers over 30 acres of green space allowing for a wide variety of outdoor play activities. The park features many large fields, woodland areas, a duck pond, soccer fields, a racing track as well as publicly available washrooms. We have been approved by the park board to use Memorial South Park for our daily activities.
